The leadership skills that I about to present are skills that I have found to be effective for me. Of course there are other leadership skills out there that I have developed but these stand out to me the most. Leadership skills may trickle into other skills or traits that make for a great leader. Keep that in mind!
#1 Be Personable
In my experience, I have found that I enjoyed when my leaders were personable but still about business. It let me know that they are human, too, and that they truly live a life outside of their career roles. When I'm leading my PLCs, I am always sure to show them that I am a human and that we can have meaningful and purposeful conversations in the workplace.
#2 Transparent Communication
We've heard that transparency is important. It truly is! Being honest and open about important information and the happenings builds trust and positive relationships.
#3 Effective Listening
The people that one leads want to be heard and they want to know that their leader is listening, not just to them but others that may be impacted as well. It shows that the leader values them and wants to ensure that they are supportive.
#4 Organization
Organization may seem very minute, but it isn't. Organization helps leaders see their vision, clearly. One may have a greater understanding if they are organized. Organization encompasses many areas such as, decision making, work space, meetings and deadlines.
#5 Problem Solving
A leader must have the ability to solve problems or generate ideas of solutions to problems. Additionally, leaders should utilize resources to help them solve problems such as colleagues, experts, or vital information. Be able to come up with a few solutions, then select the BEST solution.
